Chiropractic Change for your Community

In your neighborhood and in thousands of communities across the nation, Americans are answering our country’s call to service & are making a change. You have been taking amazing steps toward change by optimizing your health & wellness. This week our nation will come together in a shared spirit of community, and I wanted to support you in continuing to improve your life and health.

We can help rebuild our country by starting with ourselves. Gandhi’s statemement “Be the change you wish to see in the world” rings so loud & true in our day & age. We know what can happen when ordinary people turn their hopes into real action, something extraordinary blossoms.

One of the focuses for this presidential team is to improve our health care system. One of the ways in which they hope to do this is to increase access to chiropractic care. President Obama stated, “As we shift our health care delivery system towards a culture of wellness & disease prevention, I believe that Chiropractors must play an integral role in expanding access to preventive care & strengthening our public health system.” This statement puts you & Chiropractic at the forefront of health care. The grassroots movement that was created was always about more than an election. It’s about bringing much needed change to Washington and our communities.

Monday is not only the eve of an inauguration that brings us so much hope; it is also Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a day in which we honor the power of one man to bring about change by serving his country. You can help kick off an ongoing commitment to serve your communities by taking part in this extraordinary day of service.

Congratulations in taking action for your health, family, community & our country!

The Number One Cause of Pain and Sickness and Disease

Good Vibrations Family Chiropractic

What is the #1 cause of pain, sickness or disease? =Stress

Emotional stress is what we generally think of when we think of stress, but there are two other types.
It’s a well known fact that stress can rob you of your health and happiness. In fact, eventually it can even kill you. Most of the time when you think of stress, you think of the emotional kind, the kind that comes from too much to do, or a deadline you’re in danger of missing etc.

But that’s only one kind of stress; there are three different kinds.

Physical Stress

We are all prone to physical stress based on our lifestyle choices. You sit at a computer all day. Your child watches too much television or plays video games for long periods. You are overweight. Your posture is less than supportive. You’ve been involved in an automobile accident. You’ve been through the birth process.
All of these situations cause physical stress to the body that may compromise your nervous system and interfere with the ways in which your brain communicates with your body.

Chemical Stress

What are your eating habits? Soda & chips rather than water and fruit? How about where you live? Is there a lot of pollution, smog, unclean air, water with heavy metals? Do you eat a lot of fast food? Smoke cigarettes or drink too much alcohol? How about recreational or prescription drug use?

Frequent exposure to chemical stressors wreaks havoc with your nervous system and places continued “wear and tear” on your nervous system and your entire body, right down to the cellular level.

Emotional Stress

Economical problems, relationship problems, aging parents, a tyrant for a boss, death of a loved one, a new job, moving to a new location – all of these cause emotional stress. How you handle these situations?
The best way to cope with stress is to be aware of the three kinds, how they affect your life and how you choose to respond to them. You can choose to eat better, get more exercise, see a counselor, join a support group and come in for regular chiropractic care. One of the best ways to minimize the effects of stress is to increase your body’s ability to adapt, heal & grow by keeping your nervous system healthy – the goal of your chiropractic care at Good Vibrations ?.

The Healing Process

Good Vibrations Family Chiropractic

The Healing Process

It’s a unique process. Healing is a process you go through. It’s not an event that happens to you. It’s not something someone else does to you. You are your own healer and the way you heal is to participate in your process as fully as you can. Chiropractic supports your healing process by enhancing the communication of energy from the Central Nervous System to your whole body.

Everybody’s process is different. No two are the same because no two people are the same. Everybody’s experience of life is unique. We may do similar things to bring about healing but our experiences of them may be very different.

There are many different options for healing. What you choose to do may be different than what other people choose. It doesn’t matter. There is no right or wrong way to heal. Do what resonates with you. There is only your way. It’s a choice & a healthy lifestyle that you create. Whether it is Chiropractic, yoga, eating healthy, meditation, thinking positive thoughts etc, one of the keys to the process is to be consistent , this is where you will see results & transformation.

Sometimes things happen in life over which we have no control. Sometimes we make unhealthy choices of the past that lead to not so great outcomes. Whatever the adversity, and however it was caused, it’s up to you to decide how you are going to respond. Each adversity is an opportunity to heal & grow on many levels. Healing is one of the most important reasons we are here. Ultimately healing is the reconnection of the body, mind & spirit.

Daily Self Care

Daily Self-Care

Putting Yourself First

We have all heard the instructions of an airline attendant reminding us to put on our own oxygen mask before we help anyone else with theirs. This advice is often cited as a metaphor for self-care because it so accurately expresses why it is important. It seems to say, ironically that if you can’t take care of yourself for yourself, do it for others. Few situations in our daily lives mimic the wake-up call of an airplane emergency, so it’s easy to keep putting self-care off, that is, until we get sick, overwhelmed, or exhausted, and suddenly don’t have the energy to care for the people who count on us. That’s when we realize we haven’t been getting the oxygen we need to sustain ourselves. We begin to understand that taking care of ourselves is neither selfish nor indulgent; it’s just plain practical and necessary for thriving in life.

Putting yourself first means that it may be necessary to say no to someone else in order to say yes to yourself. For many of us, there is always something we feel we could be doing for someone else, and it helps to remember the oxygen metaphor. You can even encourage yourself by saying “I am caring for myself so that I am better able to care for others” or some other mantra that will encourage you. It also helps to remember that self-care doesn’t have to be composed of massively time-consuming acts. In fact, the best to take care of yourself is probably small, daily rituals; for example, taking one half-hour for yourself at the beginning and end of the day to meditate, going to the Chiropractor, writing in a journal, stretching or just being. You might also transform the occasional daily shower or bath into an opportunity to just relax.

Whatever you decide, take some actions where you put yourself first every day and it will pay off ten-fold for you and the ones you love. The oxygen you need is all around you; sometimes you just need to be reminded to take care of yourself and just breathe…

Hope

HOPE

“The Sky Is Blue Even on a Cloudy Day”

When we refer to a “beautiful day,” we are often describing a day that is sunny, clear, and without a cloud in sight to mar a sky that is a brilliantly perfect blue. We find ourselves bouncing along, light in spirit, free from worries, and enjoying the moment. That is, until the clouds begin to form. The sky may turn grey, and a fog may roll in. Puffs of white take on whimsical, darker shades, and our beautiful day disappears along with the sunshine… or so it seems.

A clear blue sky often inspires in us good cheer, bringing on a lighter, more carefree day. We may find ourselves spending time outdoors, breathing in the fresh air, and basking in the warmth of the sun. Yet should clouds appear to wash the sky with shadows, we may let this change of weather decrease our energy and enthusiasm, pulling us into our own cloudy funk. Darker days are just as much a part of life as are the days graced with sunshine. They show us a different perspective of our world, while helping us appreciate the moments of illumination that inevitably follow. A rainy day with clouds helps to clear the air, washing away stagnation. Still, it’s hard not to feel gloomy or think that the day has been ruined when there are clouds hanging over us. Yet if you can remember that these shades of grey won’t last forever, and that hidden behind the clouds is the blue sky, you will find that the beauty of your day is merely playing a game of peek-a-boo with you. Like the mishaps and interruptions that occasionally block the brilliance that is our own lives from shining through, clouds eventually clear away so we can open up to a brighter horizon.

The next time you wake up to a cloudy day, remember that these shades of grey in life are there just for the moment. And that no matter how hard the rain falls or how chilly the fog is, the clouds will go away, the sun will break through, and you will be able to see the sky that has always and forever been a beautiful and brilliant blue.

Celebrating Good Vibes!

Feelings vibrate, just as all things in the universe do, at a particular frequency. Negative feelings like anger, guilt, and depression vibrate at low frequencies, while positive feelings like joy, appreciation, and passion vibrate at high frequencies. These high frequency vibrations make us feel good. This is why people and places that inspire and cultivate positive feelings have what we call good vibrations.

Good vibrations inspire health, happiness, and optimism. When we are tuned in to good vibrations, our bodies heal, our hearts open, and our minds shift toward the light. We see new possibilities and feel powerfully energized to follow our inner visions. At the same time, we feel relaxed and capable of manifesting these visions without giving in to stress or struggle. Good vibrations put us in a state of perfect receptivity so that we feel it is the energy flowing through us that accomplishes what needs to be done. We feel guided, supported, protected, and nourished within this joyful flow. We sometimes forget that we are allowed to feel this way all the time.

Lower frequency vibrations are not bad in a moral sense, but they are bad in the sense that they simply don’t feel good. Still, they have a purpose, which is to alert us to the fact that we are blocking out the higher frequency vibrations that we need to function well. They are a call for healing ourselves from within. The key to our healing lies in remembering that it is our birthright to feel good and that feeling good is the essence of our true nature. When we are receiving and sending out good vibrations, we are in the flow. When we are not, we can begin to raise our vibration by seeking out people, places, and situations that vibrate at a higher frequency. At Good Vibrations Family Chiropractic we are excited to celebrate YOU & raising good vibrations for 5 years!!!

Summon Your Aliveness

Being Fully Present

When we are fully present, we offer our whole selves to whatever it is that we are doing. Our attention, our integrity, and our energy are all focused in the moment and on the task at hand. This is a powerful experience, and when we are in this state, we feel completely alive and invigorated. This kind of aliveness comes easily when we are absorbed in work or play that we love, but it is available to us in every moment, and we can learn to summon it regardless of what we are doing. Even tasks or jobs we don’t enjoy can become infused with the light of being present. The more present we are, the more meaningful our entire lives become.

Next time you find yourself fully engaged in the moment, whether you are making art, trying to solve an interesting puzzle, or talking to your best friend, you may want to take a moment to notice how you feel. You may observe that you are not thinking about what you need to do next, your body feels like it’s pleasantly humming, or your brain feels tingly. As you enjoy the feeling of being located entirely in the present moment, you can inform yourself that you may try to recall this feeling later. You might try this while driving home or getting ready for bed, allowing yourself to be just as engaged in that experience as you were in the earlier one.

The more we draw ourselves into the present moment, the more we honor the gift of our lives, and the more we honor the people around us. When we are fully present, we give and receive aliveness in equal measure. For today, try to be fully present in your daily activities and watch a new reality open for you.

We Are Family

Humanity-  When it comes to our families, we sometimes see only our differences. We see the way our parents cling to ideas we don’t believe, or act in ways we try not to act. We see how practical one of our siblings is and wonder how we can be from the same gene pool. Similarly, within the human family we see how different we are from each other, in ways ranging from gender and race to geographical location and religious beliefs. It is almost as if we think we are a different species sometimes. But the truth is, in our personal families as well as the human family, we really are the same.

A single mother of four living in Africa looks up at the same stars and moon that shine down on an elderly Frenchman in Paris. A Tibetan monk living in India, a newborn infant in China, and a young couple saying their marriage vows in Indiana all breathe the same air, by the same process. We have all been hurt and we have all cried. Each one of us knows how it feels to love someone dearly. No matter what our political views are, we all love to laugh. Regardless of how much or how little money we have, our hearts pump blood through our bodies in the same way. With all this in common, it is clear we are each individual members of the same family. We are human.

Acknowledging how close we all are, instead of clinging to what separates us, enables us to feel less alone in the world. Every person we meet, see, hear, or read about, is a member of our family. We are truly not alone. We also begin to see that we are perfectly capable of understanding and relating to people who, on the surface, may seem very different from us. This awareness prevents us from disconnecting from people on the other side of the tracks, and the other side of the world. We begin to understand that we must treat all people for what they are—family.

The Amazing Body

As human beings we have been given a wonderful gift. Our incredible minds and internal spirits are housed in a body that enables us to physically connect with this beautiful planet we inhabit. We are able to see, hear, taste, smell, and feel through our bodies and convey all those senses to our minds and souls so that we may learn and grow and ultimately evolve.

The human body serves us the best to its ability, everyday of our lives, allowing us to breathe in the oxygen that is our life force, most of the time without us even having to thinking about it. That breath fuels a complex system that not only allows our body to function, but to renew itself. Our bodies actually have the capacity to remake themselves at a cellular level every seven years. That we can heal from major injury, severe illness, and physical trauma is a feat that we often take for granted. When the mind and spirit are one with the body, our ability to heal ourselves is truly miraculous.

The conditions to which we humans are able to adapt are beyond that of many other creatures on our planet. Our bodies continuously cleanse toxins from our system, whether environmental or self-induced. We push them beyond their limits to perform incredible feats, jumping to heights unimaginable, running at speeds that break records, and bending into yoga postures that are beyond comprehension. Even without sleep and nourishment our bodies continue to function until there is no more to give. When one of our senses or organs cease functioning, others are quick to step up to the plate and compensate for any loss. If we lose our eyesight, our hearing and/or other senses become more astute. When one kidney can no longer function, the other does the job for both of them. The human body is an incredible team that is on our side in the game of life.

We are blessed to be here, now, as human beings that can bring love and compassion to all the creatures we share this earth and universe with. Honor your being and use it to do good. The spirit and mind are willing, and so too, is the body.

Spreading Love Effortlessly

In the quest to create a gentler, more loving world, kindness is the easiest tool we can use. Though it is easy to overlook opportunities to be kind, our lives are replete with situations in which we can be helpful, considerate, thoughtful, and friendly to loved ones and associates, as well as strangers. The touching, selfless acts of kindness that have the most profoundly uplifting effects are often the simplest: a word of praise, a gentle touch, a helping hand, a gesture of courtesy, or a smile. Such small kindnesses represent an unconditional, unrestricted form of love that we are free to give or withhold at will. When you give the gift of kindness, whether in the form of assistance, concern, or friendliness, your actions create a beacon of happiness and hope that warms people’s hearts.

The components of kindness are compassion, respect, and generosity. Put simply, kindness is the conscious act of engaging others in a positive way without asking whether those individuals deserve to be treated kindly. All living beings thrive on kindness. A single, sincere compliment can turn a person’s entire world around. Holding a door or thanking someone who has held a door for you can inspire others to practice politeness and make already kind individuals feel good about their efforts. Smiling at people you meet—even those who make you feel like frowning—can turn a dreary encounter into a delightful one, for both of you. Every kind act has a positive influence on the individual who has performed said act as well as on the recipient, regardless of whether the act is acknowledged. Kindness brings about more kindness and slowly but surely takes a positive toll on humanity.

Weaving the thread of kindness into your everyday life can be as easy as choosing to offer a hearty “Good morning” and “Good night” to your coworkers or neighbors, a stranger on the street, or the grocery store clerk. When you commit a kind act, you are momentarily disconnected from your ego and bonded with the individual who has benefited from your kindness. Being fully present in each moment of your life facilitates kindness as it increases your awareness of the people around you. You’ll discover that each act of kindness you engage in makes the world, in some small way, a better place.

What is Innate Intelligence?

Good Vibrations Family Chiropractic

What is Innate Intelligence?

A woman had been suffering from Migraines for decades. She now has absolutely no pain, no dysfunction,  and leads a normal drug-free, happy life and actively participating in every activity she and her family undertake.

A nurse is not sure if he is going to be able to continue the career he loves because of the debilitating pain he experiences daily. Now he has taken a full time position in the department he has always wanted.

A man had been having trouble swallowing and had experienced a feeling of tightness in his chest and at the base of his skull for several years. He thought he was literally having a heart attack. Many doctors had told him that nothing was wrong, that it was stress and yet, after just a few adjustments, these uncomfortable feelings were gone.

A man in his eighties was having difficulty walking.  He used to love jogging & dancing but the pain and weakness in his feet and legs had gotten to the point where he could now only walk slowly and for short distances before having to stop.  He now goes to weekly dance class.

A baby was unable to nurse or even drink from a bottle.  He had been this way since his birth four days earlier.  After just one adjustment, he latched on and began nursing normally.  He also had his first bowel movement immediately afterward; something his parents described as a “major infant mudslide!”

A 17 month old toddler was not walking, & within 2 weeks of adjustments for pelvis & spine she began walking.

A pregnant Mom came in because she thought she was going to have C-Section with her daughter because she was breech, her daughter was born naturally & safely just like she had always wanted.

A man in his seventies tells me how much better and more relaxed he is feeling since beginning care.  His four-year-old Granddaughter is in the corner playing with her doll and says, “Yep!  And Grandpa doesn’t smack me anymore either!”  The man begins to cry.

How can all of these things happen from a program of chiropractic care you ask?  It is actually very simple.  Each one of us (including you) has an Innate Intelligence within our bodies that knows exactly how to run, regulate, adapt, heal and grow our bodies from conception until death.  But, if the communication pathway in the nerves between your brain and your body is compromised by what we call the subluxation process, this Intelligence cannot comprehend and respond to all of the stresses you encounter in your environment, and cannot maintain normal function, so things begin to break down.  This will eventually affect every single system if allowed to progress and can result in every kind of physical, mental, emotional, social or spiritual problem you can imagine.

By restoring the NEUROLOGICAL CONNECTIONS between your brain and your body through the chiropractic adjustment process, your Life Energy is able to once again flow easily from inside-out and restore you to the whole and happy being you were meant to beJ

Gifts

Good Vibrations Family Chiropractic

Finding Gifts In All

When we have good days, we often find ourselves going over the details later, enjoying them a second and third time as we feel the joy of our good fortune. When we have bad days, we may find ourselves poring over the details of our misfortunes. However, we can reframe those bad days by making it a daily practice to spend some time before going to bed each night to review the gifts we received that day. Regardless of our evaluation of the day—good, bad, mediocre—we can call forth the many blessings that were present. This practice transforms our consciousness as it reveals the fullness at the heart of our lives.

Some days it’s easy to recount the gifts we’ve received; on other days, we have to look harder for the offerings of the day, but once we do, we will find there are always quite a few. We can keep it simple and be grateful for the fact that we have a roof over our head, nature, food, and our health. Once we have fully experienced these gifts, we can move outward to the gifts that may require a little more thought such as the gifts of forgiveness, tolerance and acceptance that we may have learned that day. We can also always be grateful for the people in our lives who support us, no matter how bad our day may have been.

Just reviewing the many positive offerings in our lives provides a context for our difficulties that puts them in proper perspective, but we can also make an effort to see the gifts even in adverse circumstances. This can be challenging and may require some practice before it feels authentic, but we have all had the experience of a disappointment or loss leading to a surprising gain. Just remembering this and trusting the give and take of life can help us to remember that sometimes the best gifts of all are the ones we don’t recognize right away. In addition, the lessons we learn in the face of adversity are gifts allowing us to create patience, wisdom, and fortitude alongside the other gifts of the day.

Communication

Good Vibrations Family Chiropractic

Centering And Expressing
Communication

When we are in a relationship where we feel listened to and understood, we count ourselves lucky because we know how rare that experience is. We reserve our most intimate selves for the people who, along with us, cocreate an open space where we feel free to express ourselves and listen without judgment. These relationships, which thrive on open communication, can mean the difference between existential loneliness and a deep sense of belonging. We all long to feel heard, understood, and loved, and clear communication makes this possible.

Sometimes problems arise in the process of expressing how we feel, but it is always worth it to do the work. Even in our less intimate relationships, expressing ourselves honestly is essential to our sense of well-being. Whether at home with family or in the outside world, successful communication requires some forethought; otherwise we risk blundering through our relationships like the proverbial bull in a china shop. However, too much forethought can stifle us or cause us to pad our words so extremely that we end up saying nothing at all or confusing the matter further. The good news is that there are many methods that can come to our rescue, from meditation to visualization to journaling.

If the person we need to communicate with is open to sitting in meditation together for a set period of time before speaking, this can be invaluable. When we are calm and centered, we can count on ourselves to speak and respond truthfully. We can also meditate on our own time and then practice what we need to say. A visualization in which we sit with the person and lovingly exchange a few words can also be a great precedent to an actual conversation. If writing comes easily, we can write out what we need to say; it may take several drafts, but we will eventually find the words. The key is to find ways to center ourselves so that we communicate meaningfully, lovingly, and wisely. In this way, we honor our companions and create relationships in which there is a genuine sense of understanding and respect.
